The Officers’ Club had been Lt Gen Sir Mark Poffley
KCB OBE talking to
planning their 80th Anniversary
members
reunion dinner for well over a
year but of course the pandemic
kept getting in the way of the
event, which is normally held
in March. In 2020, the dinner
took place just a few days before the first lockdown.
For 2021, it was difficult to plan with any degree
of certainty as the ‘goalposts’ kept moving. It was
planned for the Club to return to London where
it held many dinners in it’s early years and the din-
ner was eventually held on Friday 10th September Col Nick Borsly, ACC

2021, the venue was the splendid Drapers’ Hall in
giving his speach
the heart of the City of London. Drapers’ Hall is a
stunning location, probably one of London’s finest
Livery Company Halls, often used for films rep-
licating Buckingham Palace for example. Having
only just reopened following a multi £million refur-
bishment during lockdown, the Hall was looking
even more splendid than usual. As well as almost 80
members, the Club was joined by Lt Gen Sir Mark
Poffley KCB OBE, Master General of Logistics,
Commodore David Smith CBE, the Master of the

ADC. Well, what a magnificent evening with a
pianist at the grand piano and a guest appearance
by The RLC Corps of Drums who gave a fantastic
performance including their LED light sticks.
Prior to the dinner, members of the Officers’
Club had gathered in a nearby hotel, The Ned, for
afternoon tea for some and an early G&T or beer
for others. The Ned opened in 2017 and is a rather
unusual and quirky hotel, which is housed in the
Our pre-dinner meet former and rather stunning former Midland Bank
up in the Electric Bar at
The Ned headquarters, designed by Sir Edwin ‘Ned’ Lutyens
in 1924, now a Grade 1 listed building. Many
members enjoyed returning to The Ned for a late
night drink before turning in, an excellent breakfast
the following morning, and a leisurely trip home on
the Saturday. The Club is extremely grateful to The
RLC Association Trust Fund for supporting this
fabulous event and encouraging so many members
The RLC Corps of Drums
giving us an impressive to attend. Next year’s reunion dinner might well be
light display rather more modest!
