Dear Wally, Happy New Year. I was When I joined up in October 1954,

Many of the articles in the magazine When asked what he used to do he said,
seem to be about the Junior intakes, I “picking totties oot o the grund”. After

not sure about Jock. We then went to

ings, I never saw or heard of him again.
I think there was a S/Sgt Lamb in the
‘Last Post’ a couple of years ago, maybe
it was him?
My proper name is Graham,
I became known as Jim after my post-
ing to Gibraltar in May 1956. My
wife of forty years does not believe
I was ever shy or self-conscious,
but I did not like saying my name.
I was put in the company kitchen of
the British Military Hospital and
on my first day the Corporal kept
asking my name, but I did not reply.
Eventually, he said “make a bowl of bat-
ter Jimmy”, I did, and the name stuck.
The Corporal was called ‘Geordie’
Neave, someone else I never knew the
proper name of. After he was posted
I did not see him again until, I think,
he turned up at the School on a course
as a WO1 in about 1972.
If it is possible to find anybody in the
photograph, or Geordie Neave, I would
be most grateful.
Yours sincerely, Graham Toyne aka Jim

cannot find a Lamb (Jock or otherwise) or
Neave on our membership database.
