Letters to the Editor from
Around the Regions
Dear Editor,
Thank you for issue 59 of The Cauldron.
When I saw the letters, I was immediately drawn to the photograph of
‘O’ squad at their passing out parade. This brought back many memories of my
time as an apprentice at Aldershot. I enlisted in 1964 and arrived in May of that
year and we were all
sent to Mons Barracks
to do our basic training.
I was then allocated to
‘O’ squad Scarisbrick
platoon, Clayton Barracks
to continue my training.
Unfortunately, on
Good Friday 1965 I was
involved in a serious
accident and spent the
next 16 months in vari-
ous hospitals and ended
up in The Royal Herbert
Hospital, Woolwich. I was
discharged from hospital in July 1966 but because of the training I had missed
I had stay on for an extra term eventually passing out in April 1967 and being
posted to The Royal Herbert Hospital. It was here that I met and married my wife
in 1968 and we are still happily married. I stayed in the Army until 1988 when I
completed my 22 years’ service and we now live happily in Kingswood near Bristol
